Dementia Care

At Rubislaw Park Care Home, we are proud to provide dementia care in a bespoke dementia unit in Aberdeen. Our team has received extensive training in getting to grips with all elements of dementia, and on the first floor of our dementia care home in Aberdeenshire, we provide dementia care in a safe, caring, and welcoming setting for older people.

Our care home staff and Activity Coordinators can work with individuals with dementia to provide a variety of activities and alternative therapies to find activities that are appropriate and that support their specific needs. Alongside our dementia unit lead and team of care assistants, we have a nurse on-site who specialises in dementia care and who provides medical, practical and emotional support to both residents and their families.

What is Dementia Care?

Within our care home, we provide dedicated dementia care to older people in Aberdeen and the surrounding area. We have experienced staff working around-the-clock to give as much support as our residents require. We appreciate each and every one of our residents’ strengths and skill sets; we actively encourage them to use them as much as possible. When it comes to dementia care, the level of personalised care and support provided to each of our residents is individually tailored to meet their particular needs.

The level of help required by some will be fairly modest, while the amount of assistance required by others will be much higher. Our dementia care teams are available 24/7 and as well as providing dementia support, they also assist with personal care, social care and overall wellbeing, providing comfort and positive engagement for people living with dementia.

Dementia Care at Rubislaw Park

At Rubislaw Park Care Home, we’re teaching our teams the most up-to-date dementia research and techniques. Having these expert skills will enable our staff to deliver high-quality dementia care from the early stages through to the advanced stages. From creating engaging activities to supporting dementia residents during mealtimes; we strive to make our rooms feel homely with assistance available at all hours of the day and night.

The way our care home dementia unit has been decorated has been heavily influenced by our residents who are living with dementia. Everything that makes up our residents’ living environment is evaluated, from coloured bedroom doors and name plagues to using lots of natural lighting and signage, every design choice is made to ensure that we create a safe and homely environment at our care home in Aberdeen.

Dementia Care FAQs

Prior to moving into our home, a consultation will be scheduled with our Home Manager, the prospective resident and their loved ones to ensure we can meet their individual needs. We get to understand their routines, interests, and preferences to help us create a personalised care plan. We use a person-centred approach to care and it is our goal to help residents keep their independence and dignity while knowing we are there if they need us.

We invest in the training and development of our dementia care staff as they undergo the necessary training to ensure they are kept up to date with the very latest in dementia care and support. Our teams are experienced in providing effective care to residents living with dementia, including providing support with activities, therapies, communication, mobility, medication management, and personal care.

At Rubislaw Park Care Home, we provide a varied activities programme that everyone can participate in, which includes both group and 1:1 activities and therapies. For example, we regularly offer arts & crafts sessions, music therapy, sensory activities and reminiscence activities to benefit residents living with dementia by supporting their mental, emotional and physical well-being.
