Palliative Care

Our palliative care service at Rubislaw Park Care Home in Aberdeen has been formed by working closely with colleagues in the NHS to provide a bespoke end-of-life care service within our Nursing Unit.

To be able to provide care and support to residents at any stage is a privilege, but we are proud to be able to help support those in our community and their loved ones during an emotional and difficult time. Our team of highly-skilled nurses and care professionals go above and beyond to ensure residents receiving palliative care feel as comfortable, supported, and dignified as possible.

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care, also often referred to as end-of-life care, is designed for those with terminal illnesses and those who are in the last weeks, months, and years of their life. Such illnesses and conditions vary from natural degeneration to complex terminal pathologies.

When receiving palliative care, individuals should be made to feel as comfortable as possible, with the primary goal being to minimise pain and symptoms, ensure dignity, and support the individual’s wishes.

Support is also given to the loved ones of those receiving palliative care, enabling them to spend time together and also providing them with the help they need to face such a challenging time.

Palliative Care at Rubislaw Park

Rubislaw Park has partnered with the NHS to be able to offer a palliative care service in Aberdeen and is currently the only care home to be involved in the initiative. Our care home is well-established and is staffed with experienced care professionals who value a holistic approach to care and each resident as an individual.

Our staff, along with a local multi-disciplinary team and hospice clinicians, work hard to ensure that our palliative residents’ needs and wishes are heard, whilst delivering a high standard of care and supporting them in a positive yet sensitive manner.

The palliative care and support provided at Rubislaw Park Care Home are not only for the residents in need but for their relatives too. We understand the hardships they face and as a result, visitation is unrestricted to allow families to share precious moments, with the comfort of having 24/7 nursing care on hand.
