Stepping Back in Time

At Rubislaw Park, we love hearing the stories that make each of our residents unique. This week, we had a wonderful time coming together for a reminiscing session—sharing memories, having a good chat, and enjoying a cup of tea in the lounge.
Surrounded by familiar sights like old postcards of Aberdeen, vintage toys, and photo albums filled with black-and-white snapshots, our residents’ faces lit up with smiles. Our ladies enjoyed seeing toys from their youth like a play nurse's hat and a sweet little wooden pull-along dog.

Taking time to reminisce isn’t just enjoyable—it’s truly important for our wellbeing. For older people, sharing memories helps keep connections to the past alive, supports a strong sense of identity, and can even boost mood and confidence. Reminiscence sessions encourage conversation, spark laughter, and help build friendships as residents discover shared experiences. They also give everyone the chance to celebrate their achievements and reflect on the moments that matter most.
Our activities team puts so much heart into these sessions, making sure everyone feels included and valued. By creating space to remember, we help residents feel seen and heard, and we honour the rich lives they’ve led.
We can’t wait for our next get-together, whether it’s music from the 50s, classic films, or more stories about growing up in Aberdeen. If you’d like to see life at Rubislaw Park for yourself or just fancy a friendly chat about what we offer, please get in touch. We’d love to welcome you for a visit and show you around our beautiful home.
