Reviving Our Dementia Garden with Dobbies Garden Centre

Following our recent success in Dobbies’ Community Garden Initiative, we’re delighted to share the next chapter in our gardening journey here at Rubislaw Park.
After being selected as one of the winners in Dobbies’ nationwide campaign to support green spaces in the community, we welcomed the Dobbies team to our home to help breathe new life into our beloved dementia garden. This peaceful outdoor area, first launched last year, has become a cherished retreat for our residents, a place to relax, connect with nature and enjoy the simple pleasures of garden life.
As part of their ongoing commitment to supporting local communities, staff from Dobbies visited Rubislaw Park to meet with both residents and our care team. The visit wasn’t just a drop-off of supplies, it was a meaningful collaboration. Dobbies staff took the time to chat with residents, learn about their ideas for the garden and understand what would make the space even more special.
With a shared passion for horticulture and community wellbeing, the Dobbies team returned armed with plants, herbs and flowers, carefully chosen with the help of our residents. Together, they spent the day planting, chatting and enjoying the garden’s transformation.

The experience was more than just a gardening project, it was a chance for our residents to engage, reminisce and contribute to a space they truly care about. From selecting vibrant flowers to getting their hands in the soil, every resident who took part expressed joy and pride in shaping the garden’s future.
We’re incredibly grateful to Dobbies for their support, not just in providing plants, but in fostering a sense of connection and purpose for our residents. This revived garden is now blooming with colour, life and memories, thanks to the power of community and a shared love for growing together.
Stay tuned as we continue to nurture our dementia garden and explore new ways to bring joy and wellbeing to life at Rubislaw Park.
